Teaser Tuesdays: The Frog Princess By, E. D. Baker (5/6/2012)

book

The Frog Princess
By, E. D. Baker

”We’ll be safe enough as long as we follow some rules. One, don’t make any unnecessary noise. Two, eat while you hop---we’re on a tight schedule. Three, keep your eyes and eardrums open at al times. If you hear anything suspicious, don’t talk. Just signal me like this,” Eadric flapped his arm and patted his head. “that should get my attention".”

”Yours and that of every other creature around,” I said. “What if I tap you on the shoulder instead?”

”Fine,” Eadric said, nodding. “that should work, too.”

Heck: Where the Bad Kids Go
(The Nine Circles of Heck #1)
By Dale E. Basye

Filthy drops dripped. Filthy drips dropped. Terrible plops and splashes echoed through the dark, cramped pipeline. The smell was like a mixture of vinegar, socks, rotten milk, and every imaginable shade of poo. The smell was so thick, it was like a putrid blanket wrapped over…everything.

The Girl Nobody Wants – A Shocking True Story of Child Abuse in Ireland The Girl Nobody Wants
– A Shocking True Story of Child Abuse in Ireland
By Lily O’Brien

And you could never tell that anything was wrong with me by just looking at me, as I dress clean and I keep myself tidy, and I have a smile on my face that hides my emotions and over the years I’ve become an expert at hiding behind it. My smile also hides my weaknesses from everybody, but I don’t know how much longer I can keep the charade up and keep what’s left of my life under control. God, I need help.

3 Lipstick Laws
By Amy Holder

"I should call my mom to let her know I'll be a little late," I say in the back of Erin's red Neon.

"Use your cell," Jessica yells over the blasting music.

"Remember, my parents took it away this summer," I yell back. Britney turns down the music. "Let her worry about you. She deserves it. It's her fault you don't have your cell. She shouldn't get mad if you can't call."

Mom’s eyes seemed to glaze over. In two swift steps she was at my side. She grabbed me by my newly permed hair and dragged me out of my room. The pain was excruciating; my scalp was raw from the perm the night before, and my hair was still wet from my shower. I screamed and cried as Mom pulled me down the hallway, but fighting only made my head hurt worse.

10 Dork Diaries (Dork Diaries #1)
by; Rachel R. Russell

The most important lesson I learned last year was that having a cruddy phone – no NONE at all – can totally RUIN your social life. While hordes of celebrity party girls regularly FORGET to wear undies, not a single one would be caught dead without her mobile phone. Which was why I was nagging my mom about buying me an iPhone.

1 Beautiful
by Katie Piper

He was scruffy and unkempt, and his dark eyes stared into mine. The reminded me of Danny’s – crazed and possessed, like a deranged killer in a scary film. I shivered, then told myself I was being paranoid and silly. He was just a druggy or a beggar, and all he wanted was me to out some money in his cup. In that moment, I actually felt sorry for him. ‘Poor guy,’ I thought, ‘he must have an awful life.’ Still on the phone to Danny, I rested my mobile in the crook of my neck and reached into my bag to get my purse.

’Wait a minute, Danny,’ I told him.

By now, the young guy was only an arm’s length away from me. I was still trying to dig my purse out from in the depths of my bag when it happened.

Splash. The guy chucked the contents of the cup at my face and, in that split second, my life changed forever.

The Teaser:
When I woke up early the next morning, at first I didn’t know where I was. The heat of the sun from my dream still lingered on my skin, and I opened my eyes, half expecting to see my mother standing over me, but it was only the canopy of my bed.

Aphrodite the Beauty (Goddess Girls)

”That explains it,” said Ares, holding back a branch so Athena could pass. “I knew you couldn’t have invented something that tastes so bitter.”

Aphrodite’s beady eyes blinked in surprise. It was the kind of flirtatious line Ares had once used on her.

What Did We Use Before Toilet Paper?: 200 Curious Questions and Intriguing Answers

It is often questioned why such a seemingly useless item or apparel as the necktie was ever invented. It’s thought by some anthropologists that it might have been the first item worn, taking the form of a strip of fur around the necks of our ancestors. However, the earliest evidence of the wearing of neckties was by the Chinese. ~What did we use before Toilet Paper; Andrew Thompson
