Why exactly I picked out this book?

I was bloghopping fellow bookbloggers around this week and found this book. what attract me is obviously the title, giving me the curiousness of wondering what's going on here. Luckily I got a copy of it a day after. I guess somebody else thought I would like to read it as well. Thank you =D

My Thoughts ♠♠♠♠♠

This book is based on a 10 year old girl living in Yemen, who got married off by her own father to some stranger she never met, without her consent and of course she's completely ignorant of it all.

The book began with her running about looking for a person of law (lawyer or a judge, whoever comes first). What was that all about? she's desperate to find anybody who could force her 30 years older of a horrible husband to divorce her. She was raped, beaten up and insulted by her no good husband and his family ever since the first night she's married. Regardless the fact, he "promised" her family, that he won't touch her until she reached puberty.

What amazed and astound me is, she grew up in a very conservative family and environment, where this is is an accepted "culture" and yet she has the courage to escape to save herself, because she reached a dead end. Bravo!

Did I mention, this is a biography? there's a real Nujood out there. This has become one of the trigger that sparks the culture vs religion topics that's flying over the years. I still say, don't misunderstood, this is culture wise, not religious wise customs.

I tell you one thing. I feel lucky I have managed to bump onto this book. I love it!

Ok. I have the nitpick about this book. I'm admit, I wouldn't dare to place this in the school library, unless it's a college up library to begin with. Unless, it's approve by the school teachers. Why? Cause it is quite a controversy book due to it's nature.

However... I am definitely recommending this to all of my reading friends. It is quite a page turner!

"When She Reads" is a blog mostly dedicated to the almost lost art reading. The Reader, namely Lisa, reads a long range of genre that includes children, young adults, teens, adult fiction, horror, fantasy, steam punk, science fiction, graphic novels, mystery, thrillers, a bit of non-fiction here and there. When the blogger posts another name, a second student goes missing. And then a third. Madison needs to find her missing friends before it's too late—for them and for herself. The action proceeds at a smooth pace and hits all the right notes of a teen thriller: revenge-seeking outcasts, betrayal, mysterious strangers, and some violence and torture (though it is not graphically depicted). Characters are distinct; readers will be able to tell even the background characters apart. The gimmick of incorporating blogging, chat, and Facebook is not as central to the story as the opening pages would imply, but the social-networking technologies are blended seamlessly into the narrative. Strasser's writing is more practical than poetic, but his gripping plot will keep readers turning pages late into the night.
