IMDB: After the death of her husband, a mother takes her kids off to live with their grandparents in a huge, decrepit old mansion. However, the kids are kept hidden in a room just below the attic, visited only by their mother who becomes less and less concerned about them and their failing health, and more concerned about herself and the inheritance she plans to win back from her dying father, to the point of murder...
My 2 Cents
Yes, this is an old movie but, today I actually pulled it out just to watch it again. If you didn’t know yet, this is a movie based from one of VC Andrews novel of the same name “Flowers in the Attic”, the beginning of “The Dollangangers series.
The horror of abuse, neglect, incest… all roll in one. I remembered reading this book and reading it in one go. The pages just turn and turn and I would gasps in horror, reading how event after event rolls. Watching it again, just brings up the horror it brings. I forgot how Chris actually feed his little brother his own blood, so his little brother would eat, because their evil Grandmother “forgets” to feed them. The emotional turmoil of watching, how the children grew up in a room, for years, unnourished, deprived of sunlight and normal lives, just became what the evil Grandmother tried to avoid in the first place.
