Somebody gave me this book as a gift because mythology genre happens to be in my favorite lane (other than horror and such).
My first impression was “Err… lightning? Zeus??” Yes, it was that straight forward sort of book. Honestly said, I wasn’t really feeling it in the beginning. The hook wasn’t fast. It took me a while to actually love this book. In fact, it was a slow read for me.
But it actually pick up pace around 10 pages after or so. Hence, giving this book a chance really was worthfit since it ended up as a page turner, and on my favorite books shelf now.
It’s hard to admit but yes, there’s some character crushing going on here for me. *tee hee* Ares is still… yum. Though his kids are not. I actually expected some handsome heirs there. I be looking forward to reading more “Ares” in this series. Regressing. I found myself sinking into this world of Camp Half-Blood. Holding my breath as Percy fight, run, facing conflicts, and actually wanting to thwap lovely Grover. Though, half of the time, I actually picture Grover as that lovable monster from Sesame Street. (Don’t you miss that?) Annabeth is lovely in a naive way. She’s a strong character and I do wish more of her.
So if you hadn’t read this book, You better pick this up! I’m serious!
Updated P/S: I am so extremely glad I’ve read this before the movie came out. God! The movie reeks the book! seriously. What happened there? It’s like it wasn’t base from the book itself. *Argh!* It was another book to movie blunder! I was disappointed!
First Sentence. Look, I didn’t want to be a half-blood.
Quote. If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself.
The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1)
By Rick Riordan
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus' master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.
Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus' stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.
