One of my favorite sci-fi authors (Sharon Lee) has declared June 23rd Fantasy and Science Fiction Writers Day.
As she puts it:
As she puts it:
So! In my Official Capacity as a writer of science fiction and fantasy, I
hereby proclaim June 23 Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Day! A day of
celebration and wonder! A day for all of us readers of science fiction and
fantasy to reach out and say thank you to our favorite writers. A day,
perhaps,
to blog about our favorite sf/f writers. A day to reflect upon how
written
science fiction and fantasy has changed your life.
So … what might you do on the 23rd to celebrate? Do you even read fantasy/sci-fi? Why? Why not?
I'm in the middle of reading the Twillight Saga so I doubt I be reading any fantasy by that day. But to make it up. I be recontinuing my Harry Dresden Files after that.
I love reading fantasy or sci-fi the problem is sometimes I'm not sure which is which. The genre has melt into each other that it is no longer a separate genre at most time.
I remember my first SciFi was 2001: A Space Odyssey when I was 10. That was a hard one for my age but I insisted in reading it! Gladly to say I managed to go through it fine with my trusty dictionary! Yes dictionary!
Oh yeah I am rambling again. But yeah! I enjoy reading SciFi.
I would consider Twilight a fantasy book. Maybe I am misunderstanding the definition of the fantasy genre.
ReplyDeleteJess: I was about to say that same thing, if it isn't then I don't know what fantasy is :)
ReplyDeleteSo I would say that you're celebrating if you read the Twilight-saga on the 23rd ;)
I remember reading a really bad sci-fi book for school, and it put me off the genre for a long time. I want to expand my horizons a little though, so will have to add some to my TBR pile.
ReplyDeleteI've got the Twighlight Series waiting on my shelf. I've heard such great things about it. I tend to simplify Fantasy as things that are set in regular and current 'Earth' but with charachters like vampires, ghosts, zombies, talking animals, etc. as fantasy and to me sci-fi is either set so far in the future or on another planet, etc. I'm sure there is a much more technical way to split them out and I might be way off base.
ReplyDeleteYes, A space Odyssey would be hard going at ten, but a great book and film.
