J.J. Tully is a former search-and-rescue dog who is trying to enjoy his retirement after years of performing daring missions saving lives. So he’s not terribly impressed when two chicks named Dirt and Sugar (who look like popcorn on legs), along with their chicken mom, show up demanding his help to track down their missing siblings. Driven by the promise of a cheeseburger, J.J. begins to track down clues. Is Vince the Funnel hiding something? Are there dark forces at work—or is J.J. not smelling the evidence that’s right in front of him?
Bestselling author Doreen Cronin uses her deadpan humor to pitch-perfect effect in her first novel for young readers. Heavily illustrated with black-and-white artwork from new talent Kevin Cornell, this new series is sure to be a favorite.

My 2 ¢ ♠♠♠♠♠This is an absolutely cute book. I LOVE IT! It is fill with wonderful illustration that could make me giggle because of of its cuteness and the clever plots that keeps it’s readers reading. If you like to dive any body young into the world of mystery, I suggest trying this out as one of their first reads. It would be a wonderful introduction for them into the genre. The characters are just quirky each of their own, so they each could carry their own.

I do hope there’s another book out with the chickens and Tully in it. I was left wanting for more.

  1. This sounds like a very cute book! I wish it would be translated into Norwegian, I have a boy that starts school next year and this sounds like a fun book to try out once he starts getting the hang on reading :)

  2. I saw this book on a reviewer request list, but I passed it over. Now I should go back and see if they still have it available!
