New Year Read-A-Thon

Ok I have trying to figure out if I should join New Year Read-A-Thon up or not, but what the heck, let's try. Info of the Read-a-thon can be read up at Bookworming in the 21st Century site:

Monday Musing: Book Buying Habits

This week's Monday Musing is being hosted by Mizb17

When you buy books, do they immediately go onto your bookshelf to wait until you’re ready to read them (even if that means months/years from then!), or do you read them right away? What makes you do this? If you’re a ’shelver’, why do you think you don’t read the books right away? Do you ever feel guilty for letting the books sit there, unread? If you’re a ‘read-em-now’ person, why do you feel they have to be read right away? Do you give away the books when you’re done, too?

My Reply:
*hides* Well most of the time, my newly bought books are still being kept in their own stores' plastic bag. It either ended up in the end of my bed, or on top of a book shelf, or on the table ready to be "Librarything". Some lucky ones would be read right away if it's one of those books I must read! If that act is being called a "shelver" that is. I probably don't read teh book right away because it is right under my Must read pile (it's like I have a bibliophile OCD thing.) Yes I do feel guilty for lettign the book sit there, unread. (I have alot of them piling up somewhere. I am also a "read-em-now" person for some books. Obly because if I am in the middle of a series and HAVE to know what's happening next. I try giving away books after I'm done. "Try" is the keyword.

What items have you ever used as a bookmark? What is the most unusual item you’ve ever used or seen used?

I am a collector or bookmarks, but in the same time, I happened to keep loosing them o.0 I surely need a box for future keeps. Ok, I have a few items for use as a bookmark, but I usually ended up reaching whatever the closest there is that's on reach.

1. Real traditional bookmarks (which includes the memorandum collection of LotR, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Scorpio horoscope, Bookcrossing, Quotes, etc)
2. Used Prepaid phone cards
3. Cute tidbits cards I found while shopping.
4. Book thongs
5. random scraps of papers
6. Origami Heart and corner page pouch
7. Few DIY bookmarks given to me by craft students from school
8. The DIY Crosstitch bookmarks I've made
9. Laminated bookmarks (No Smoking - from school no smoking event, Cutout from mags, box cutouts, etc)

How about yours? I bet i can find more things to use as a bookmark =D

How does this reading challenge work? Choose the option that works best for you...

Authors & Titles -- Commit to reading 52 books

How strict is the 26 or 52? I know it isn't always easy to find those difficult letters. The thought of finding the X's (for example) might scare folks away. It shouldn't! I'm a merciful host! (Ask anyone!)

If you want to give the X's a go... For authors, try to find an X in the first name, middle name, or last name. For titles, it doesn't have to be the starting word. Try to find an X somewhere in a title, and it'd count in my book.

Still can't find a book for the letter you need? I'll take your word for it. I've been there. I know. If your library doesn't see the need to order books just because it starts with an X, then I don't blame you for not wanting to special order a book that you may or may not enjoy. You gave it your best, don't feel bad. You can still make this challenge work for you.

Countdown Challenge

I wish I read that Challenge

This challenge is for all those books you wish you'd read. It might be Pride and Prejudice, War and Peace, a Nora Roberts Romantic Suspense, the Outlander series or a childhood classic Winnie the Pooh. I have a very long list of books that I've been wanting to read for years, not to mention the list of books I've added to it since I've been blogging. These don't have to be books you currently own, you can buy them, borrow them or beg for them. This is a great challenge for getting those TBR piles reduced. So go have a look at what you might read and challenge yourself.
