The most recent humorous book I have encountered would be the Roscoe Riley Series by Katherine Applegate. This is a story of a boy who always (as far as I've encountered, started a story while he was sent to the corner, over a punishment of breaking the rules. It's either this or that. Pretty much reminds me how children thinks. He managed to get through typical event and turn it into an adventure where he always ended up in trouble.
